Five years ago my son Eric and I decided we wanted to learn to weld. We found a great teacher whose patience and knowledge got us off to a solid start. Eric is now in Montana and is using his skills in his field of mechanical engineering and I have gone 1/2 time from the health care profession and continue to have a great time developing my interest in the function and art of metal work. Another successful year completed.
This year in addition to the usual projects I experimented with: * stone topped tables and benches * welded steel outdoor masks with forged steel components. *steel based - stone topped stools - surprisingly comfortable to sit on. I have a lot of large - flat river rock left so more stools with be forthcoming.
I have also been experimenting with patinas and combing glass and steel.
Lots of new projects are planned for 2008 - so we'll see.
The winter and spring are "show free" - first event in 2008 will be the Chatham Arts June Garden Sculpture Show in Pittsboro.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions or are interesting in discussing a project. I have a few pieces at home. if you have any questions.
